I find the idiom is mostly used in negative contexts as in "He can't hit the broad side of a barn" to mean "he has no skill", "he is a poor shot", etc.
In my context, as you can see it's turned around a bit adding some irony.
Is there a Russian expression of a close meaning?

| Тут смысл, насколько я понимаю, немного другой. Персонаж не говорит о том, что надеется "попасть в точку", он надеется попасть куда-нибудь не слишком далеко от "точки". Поскольку в оригинале - ссылка на американскую поговорку, мне хотелось бы найти какую-нибудь близкую по смыслу русскую поговорку. |

| Спасибо, я, разумеется, прежде чем просить пользователей proz тратить их время на мои проблемы, потратил сколько-то своего, чтобы поискать по Интернету, нашел этот список и более того, взял одну из поговорок (про ворону и корову) в качестве временного варианта. Смущает то, что я эту поговорку никогда в жизни не слышал и не видел и подозреваю, что подавляющие большинство потенциальных читателей моего перевода - тоже. |
