Y es que debemos problematizar las miradas

español al inglés Arte/Literatura Fotografía/Imagen (y artes gráficas)
Good morning. Still copy-editing an academic paper on silence in photography.

I would be very grateful for help with the above phrase in EN as featured in the context below, and in particular what to do with "problematizar las miradas" and ff. "mirada". The target text is in US English, if it makes a difference. The paper will be published in an academic journal. Huge thanks to all.

Domini Lucas (asker) Mar 1, 2022:
p.s. re pinpoint further to my closing comment, I meant to add that 'pinpoint' was also very helpful. Every answer was near to what I needed. As mentioned I only chose 'gaze' because I think the author meant for one specific industry specific word to be included and gaze and look did feature in my research, but gaze seemed closer. Thank you again.

The quotes within the text are all from the same quoted author.
Domini Lucas (asker) Feb 22, 2022:
more context Here is a little more context as requested. I'm not sure it will shed much more light on it though. This is the fuller paragraph inclusive of ff. quote and the section I mentioned originally. I've deleted the names of the quoted author
so as not to make it too identifiable as it will be published.

We need to define the nature of the gaze

I believe the most important part of the sentence is "antes que la cámara, su uso, está la mirada, la forma de ver el mundo". "Gaze", rather than "perspective" seems to be more appropriate here.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thank you so much to everyone for your help with us. At first the comments re perspectives helped me a great deal with untangling the meaning, however on looking at the text further, and my Oxford Media Dictionary, I think gaze is more likely to fit with the author's intention so I submitted that. I haven't heard back from the client, but the text will be edited so hopefully the right meaning will be prevail. Thank you gain so much to everyone who supported me with this query. "

we need to find, locate and suggest whatever or where the problems are

This is from somebody who spoke about efforts to improve photography and increase a photo stock.
'Correctly speaking, since the images are the same or similar as they are always in the same visual format, the problem is not from the number of images. (2020, p.14)
"The main issue finds all of those realities without visual images and without an opportunity to become photographic images."
We need to find, locate and suggest what or where the problems or drawbacks could be. Facing the camera and its usage lies the vision and a way of seeing the world. The images should be separated.'

Peer comment(s):

agree philgoddard : I think "define perspectives" is best.

neutral Andrew Bramhall : Maybe Phil, but to me the " nature of" bit is redundant.

we need to examine/look at/question the perspectives

I think the author is suggesting there is a problem with perspectives, so we need to look at why that is
