Yellow Pedal

Non-PRO English Other Government / Politics Yellow Pedal
This is a Yellow Pedal. It's evidence of a police seizure.

British police. What we could say instead. Yellow paper for example?

Thanks in advance,

This is the same reference I mentioned earlier, but from a number of other sources.

'Smith was a trusted operator who built his fortune by keeping his word ... a close lieutenant of Smith in the Netherlands, told the Colombians a different story. Smith, it seemed, knew exactly where the mystery consignment was. A Dutch businessman with links to the Liverpool mafia said: 'Smith had no problem recovering the cocaine. It was in containers lined up on the docks like a row of new cars.' An established network of Liverpool gang members based in Amsterdam was secretly tasked with selling the drug. A meeting in Amsterdam was arranged between the Colombians and Smith's syndicate. The former demanded a *** 'yellow pedal' - a police charge sheet or newspaper cutting proving that the goods had been confiscated. *** Smith could not produce one. The Colombians warned him of dire repercussions if he did not hand over the money. A stand-off between the two gangs developed, one that would presently claim a Colombian scalp. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2008/may/18/drugstrade.int...

@ Lara Since Asker is probably just seeking comprehension in order to (presumably) be able to translate it into some other language, I don't really think that'd be a lot of help here, would it? We all now know WHAT it is; over to Asker to formumate in the target language.
Lara Barnett Mar 31, 2022:
@ Tony I was thinking in terms of how it could be placed in the respective sentence, if there is one. For example, there are more than one or two ways of including a gloss if required. It always helps to know surrounding text if there is any.
Taña Dalglish Mar 31, 2022:
@ Althea That is why I explained that it is difficult to describe "yellow pedal". My reference also outlined that it could be a "newspaper cutting proving that the goods had been confiscated.", i.e. on yellow paper (your statement that you don't think that it is a charge sheet). The Liverpool reference I provided (in Reference box) outlines a scenario that by producing this "yellow pedal/copy", it served as enough evidence for crooks to rip off other crooks and get away with tens of thousands of Pounds. Anyway .. Thanks again and regards.

This (along with your other questions) sound like they are from 'The Responder'. In episode 5, just after 46 minutes, the main character tears a yellow (copy) sheet from a police Found Property Record book (it says that on the front of the book). At just before 49 minutes, he gives it to someone, tells her it's a yellow pedal and tells her it's evidence of a police seizure. So, Taña is spot on saying it's evidence of the police holding some of your property but I don't think it's a charge sheet though.

S.J. As I said in my reference remark, "Yellow" seems to imply that it is a yellow copy/or carbon copy on yellow paper of a police charge sheet or a newspaper cutting/clipping. This link https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/liverpoo... describes a scenario and how the term "yellow pedal" came into being [A crook’s ‘get out of jail free’ card comes in the form of what is known as a ‘yellow pedal’ by producing a carbon copy on yellow paper ...]. The question is for you, I guess, is to find a brief way of explaining this for translation purposes. Regards.
Tony M Mar 31, 2022:
@ Lara There's really no need for any further context: Asker has explained ths situation very well, and this is a jargon term that stands perfectly well in isolation.
If you don't happen to be familiar with this term, that's OK, you can just scroll on by; but no amount more context will make any difference: one is either familiar with it... or one is not. This is not something that could be "worked out".
Lara Barnett Mar 31, 2022:
@ S.J. It is easier to find the correct term if you post even a small amount of the surrounding text. Any names etc can be changed to XXX or something anonymous like that.
S.J (asker) Mar 31, 2022:
It is drugs seizure.
Lara Barnett Mar 31, 2022:
@ S.J. What is the context?

I am not quite sure how to word it succinctly in order to explain the meaning of "yellow pedal".

"Yellow" seems to imply that it is a yellow copy/or carbon copy on yellow paper of a police charge sheet or a newspaper cutting/clipping.

'yellow pedal' - a police charge sheet or newspaper cutting proving that the goods had been confiscated.

In such circumstances, a crook’s ‘get out of jail free’ card comes in the form of what is known as a ‘yellow pedal’.
By producing a carbon copy, on yellow paper, of the sheet handed out when the authorities impound a shipment, or a newspaper report of the seizure, criminals wipe the slate clean, writing off tens of millions of pounds, and go back to doing business.

agree Tony M : Multi-part self copying forms often have a white top copy, and then the various ones underneath wil be yellow / pink / blue etc., whence presumably the name. / I thought a little extra background might help Asker visualize and understand the idea.

Thank you. I understand all of that as many of the forms of this type are the same. The question is, for the purposes of replying to the Asker's query is how to convey this idea without being too long-winded.
