Spanish term

FISCALIA GENERAL DE JUSTICIA

Spanish to English Law/Patents Law (general) Police clearance
It is a title for a law enforcement office in Mexico. IS this a district attorney or attorney general?

I hear procuraduría and fiscal but I want to be sure I am using the title correctly. So is it procuraduría? What is the fiscalía general de justicia?

What is the procuraduría and what is the fiscalía General de justicia? What is the difference?

A bit confused. Thanks!

Totally agree with TomW Best to avoid localis(z)ation and the temptation to use US (or UK) terms.
Thomas Walker Mar 31, 2022:
Please provide much more context - the whole paragraph where it occurs, or at least a sentence or two before and after the phrase.
This phrase can be tricky to translate for Mexican Spanish - we have to avoid trying to grab a familiar English phrase, just because that's what we're used to. The Mexican office may not be equivalent to either district attorney or attorney general - depending.

From this discussion seems like it is the same body with a name change.

Particularly for local or state offices, some Mexican clients prefer "Local Government Office" (for local) or "Office of the Attorney General" for statel.

agree Adrian MM. : La procuraduría in Lat. Am. ('defensa de la familia') is a sort of Attorney-General's Office that can stop a divorce decree nisi being made absolute. https://www.proz.com/kudoz/spanish-to-english/government-pol...

agree AllegroTrans : This is fine but I fail to see why Adrian is rambling on about divorces and terms specific to GB
