French term

GDP

French to English Other Government / Politics Lawsuit between two governmental agencies
Hello,

I am looking for the term this acronym stands for. My document is written in Canadian French and is a lawsuit with Hydro-Québec as the plaintiff against RÉGIE DE L’ÉNERGIE. I do not believe this acronym is equivalent to the English Gross Domestic Product, as I can see how that would fit in this context. However, maybe I am wrong, if so, please tell me so!

Here is some context that will hopefully help you to understand how it fits in the context:

@Libby Cohen Thanks for this additional info. I will put that info in my notes for further reference. I often translate these types of documents, so having this info at the ready will be so helpful. I really am grateful that you actually gave me some concrete info that solved my problem. I will definitely select yours as the best answer.

@philgoddard I know you are trying to help, but I did do that. I put in many keywords related to the Régie and to the subject matter contained in my document. I did not come up with anything valid. I also knew that on some of the Canadian government websites one could do just as Libby mentioned and toggle the French documents with the English, but I could not locate it on my own. So I am grateful that Libby was generous and actually provided something concrete for me to use. It totally solved my problem.

Laura, I found the info by Googling the following: "GDP" site: Hydro-Québec (the first result returned was the French link that I referenced in my answer).
philgoddard Apr 12, 2022:
You need to be more specific in your Googling. GDP on its own won't do it, but Hydro Québec tarif GDP will.
Laura Hastings-Brownstein (asker) Apr 12, 2022:
Yes Googled it and googled it and always came up with Gross Domestic Product. I have done lots of research.
philgoddard Apr 12, 2022:
Have you Googled this? It's very easy to find.

Per Hydro-Québec's website, this a way of billing based on the client's "efforts" during peak periods. If you toggle between the EN and FR links below, you'll find the explanation: "In decision D-2021-141 [in French only], the Régie de l’énergie approved the rate related to Hydro-Québec’s Demand Response Option. This rate replaces the interim rate that applied to the Demand Response Option in winter 2020–2021."

Sorry for all the typos, everyone! I am in the throes of COVID with a fever, and this was definitely NOT my best work today (am usually a stickler about grammar and spelling errors)...
Example sentence:

When you sign up for the Demand Response Option, the prices and conditions in effect for your base rate continue to apply.

Thanks so much, Libby!
Libby, I am truly grateful for your help. And even when being so sick with COVID! I have gone through COVID too, and hope you are not as sick as I was!! Great answer and wonderful guidance which helped me find lots of other specific Canadian Government terminology. Take good care! Laura

Gross Domestic Product,

The acronym GDP, gross domestic product.
It is an indicator that measures the total wealth produced by a country, and its consumption, by adding exports and deducting imports.
Example sentence:

China 's GDP reached 18.23 trillion yuan in 2005, an increase of 9.9 percent over the previous year. 2 1

When this is converted into state pension expenditure as% of GDP the looming problem of unfunded pensions looks stark indeed.

Peer comment(s):

disagree Tony M : Patently not applicable in Asker's context — and they have already said so.

As 'GDP' is part of the proper name of this 'tarif', I think it probably should be translated at all anyway.
Note from asker:
Great! Thanks. I have no idea why I never came up with this in my searches, but thanks as always Tony.
