Spanish term

resguardar/ resguardo

Spanish to English Bus/Financial Finance (general) Information

i. Comprar contenedor o acondicionar un cuarto con las condiciones necesarias en la parte trasera de las instalaciones de la sede.

Se propone que toda la información se suba a OneDrive o a la plataforma que recomienda el Organismo donante o **resguardarla** en un disco duro y luego enviarlo de forma física a la oficina en el exterior.

Para el **resguardo** de archivos se requieren recursos económicos para acondicionar, archivar o trasladar los documentos según el destino.
Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (2): philgoddard, Yvonne Gallagher

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

KPMG piece here on retention of records in Nicaragua
"Record-Keeping Requirements
How long must records and invoices be retained?
The books, accounting registry and invoices shall be stored as long as the tax is not prescribed. The statute of limitation is 4 years. However, the Trade Code’s statute sets the statute of limitations to 10 years for accounting information."

Example of retention of financial records in UK
"These currently indicate that financial records should normally be retained for either 6 years or 2 years, depending on the type of record, following the end of the financial year in question. Extended retention of financial records may be necessary to enable the handling of late claims or the settling of disputes."

One last example from the USA
"The standard advice for record retention is to keep records for at least six years. This is based on IRS audit statutes. IRS audits generally can go back for the three prior years. If there is a ‘substantial omission of gross income’ the statute will be six years. Thus, the basis for six-year retention advice is that the IRS can, in some cases, go back for six years to audit. (If more than 25% of gross income is omitted then the three-year statute extends to six years.)"

Peer comment(s):

agree Adrian Lapsley : "document retention" is the standard English terminology used for this (to describe record keeping policies), as per the various examples given by Althea.

Stored/Storing

When talking about documents/archives we often use the verb "to store" which turns into "stored" as we use the past participle of a verb after "must be" (se deben resguardar). The verbal noun would be used for "para el resguardado (storing).

We can say "save on a hard drive/drive/copy", however, when talking about online storage like Microsoft Onedrive we use the verb "store" as can be seen on their website.

It's collocations with the nouns in the segments you uploaded are more consistent with the meaning you're trying to convey.
Example sentence:

Documents relating to students' exam results must be stored for up to one year after they graduate.

Use Onedrive to upload and store all your files in one place.

to protect/protection

The excerpt below from Asker's text demonstrates that the 'resguardo' in question is IT based.

'Se propone que toda la información se suba a OneDrive o a la plataforma que recomienda el Organismo donante o **resguardarla** en un disco duro y luego enviarlo de forma física a la oficina en el exterior'

In IT, 'resguardo de un archivo' means file protection. Windows (the operating system in most computers) has a a windows file protection:

Erratum: Windows file protection SYSTEM instead of Windows file protection.
