spill boring

English to Czech Tech/Engineering Engineering (general)
v kontextu vrtání hlavní střelných zbraní, ve větším měřítku asi tady https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQMOodt4qiU , kde se používá "wooden spill"

vysvětlení od výrobce hlavní The "reamer" in spill boring is a piece of steel of square cross section, similar in size and shape to a piece of tool steel you might buy from a tooling supplier. This is welded onto a rod and inserted into the drilled barrel. A "spill" of wood is pushed under one side of the piece of square section hardened steel, forcing the opposite two edges against the inside of the barrel, forming a scrape reamer in essence. The barrel is spun up to around 100 rpm and the spill borer is pushed back and forth relatively rapidly until it is loose. A cigarette paper is placed between the spill of wood and the hardened steel block and pushed back and forth along the spinning barrel again until loose. The process is repeated until the desired bore size is reached. Tallow is the traditional lubricant for spill boring. At Holland & Holland in London, they still spill bore their shotgun barrels after drilling. The finish depends on the steel I guess, the finish I saw was very even, but slightly matt. Bore lapping would determine the final finish in the bore anyhow.

dřevěná zátka pro potrubí, ropné potrubí

quote...Wooden Spill Containment Plugs have many uses. Tapered wood plugs offer excellent characteristics for temporary containment of leaks from drums, barrels, pipes or other containers. The tapered shape of these plugs allows insertion into the hole and can be pounded in for compression of the diameter to a secure seal. Softer woods such as pine and poplar are typically used as they will seal against a hard metal surface.

In addition to spill containment, Wooden Spill Containment Plugs are cost effective means of sealing municipal pipes on a temporary basis when disconnecting them for maintenance or discontinuance of service. The tapered nature allows adaptation to many size holes possible with a single plug and even broader spectrum with a couple different sized plugs on hand for any emergency. While not spill containment in the sense of keeping liquids in, emergency plugs for boats are literally lifesaving measures on keeping water out in the event of a breach via hull damage or more commonly broken hoses, clamps, or fittings on through hull fixtures that basically create a hole in your boat. The softwood plugs are pounded in and tend to swell with moisture for an even tighter fit, until repairs can be made.

Redwood pipe plugs work equally well for both gas and water lines, and are a fast inexpensive way to seal a leak. Tapered wooden plugs for emergency pipe repair are most commonly used by gas companies, fire departments, and municipal water departments. These tapered pipe plugs are environmentally friendly.

lad to see you trued up a spot for the steady rest. I usually true up a spot near the chuck as well to the same size diameter, incase I have to flip it around. And for something to indicate off of later. That *****wood *****always helps to soak up chatter as well.

pod obrázkem džíp říká """ To dřevo také vždy pomáhá vstřebat štěbetání."" (polovina dřeva, pomáhá zastavit vibrace, skákání)

under the picture, you will see the word WOOD, it is part of an EMERGENCEY SPILL PLug, cut in half "Using the ****wood block as a support ****is genius! I'm assuming you're leaving it slightly oversize so it gets cut down as it enters the ***bore? ***I wonder if that trick would be applicable to more "conventional sized" boring bars as well."

ERIK says""or right and up and down? The wood would stop it going down a bit I guess. Do you replace the*** wood support ****after each part even if all your parts have the same bore? If the chips are stringers does it tear up the**** wood?**** Not sure if I will get chips.

https://ethw.org/Barrel_Boring After drilling, bores were hand-reamed to a smooth finish. Craftsmen in the Colonial Williamsburg Gunsmithing Program have recently found that by using replica hand tools it is possible to ream a bore to diametral tolerances within 0.0005 inch. This is a respectable degree of precision even by modern standards, and another example of the results that can be achieved by metal workers who are true artists. In the case of rifles, grooves were produced by a metal cutting tool held on a*** wooden rod*** and steered by a hand-wrought helix.

Rifling was done in a number of passes and depth of cut was progressively increased ****by thin shims*** inserted between the tool and the holder. This process was well known as early as 1525.
Example sentence:

Note from asker:
jak jsem psal, je to způsob vyvrtávání hlavně zbraní, ne žádná dřevěná zátka pro zadržení kapaliny
