Otherwise, it's a service of a local phone company (or local exchange carrier) that provides a block of telephone numbers for calling into a company's private branch exchange (PBX) system. In that system, each employee can have his own phone extension, without the traffic ever being crowded.
- In English it's translated by "Direct Inward Dialing" (DID)
