Spanish term

kgf --> lbf --> lbs

Spanish to English Bus/Financial Accounting Vehicle Registration
When converted from kgf, is lbf the same as just lbs?

The term occurs in a Vehicle Registration document from Spain. I don't think that kgf is typical measurement in US Vehicle Specs.

I used an online converter, and it seems like lbf and lbs are the same values.

If the document States:

PTMA/PMA (kgf): 2.960

Then translate to

GVWR/GVW 2,960 kgf (6525.7 lbf)

or

GVWR/GVW 2,960 kgf (6525.7 lbs)

Proposed translations (English)
5 +1 kgf

@ Elizabeth Truck weights up to 80,000 pounds are allowed in California.

Ya, I'm with Phil. At most you should make it easier for the reader by expanding the acronym: kgf (kilogram-force).
philgoddard Jun 16, 2022:
Why are you converting this at all? It's not your job in my opinion.
ezpz Jun 16, 2022:
Yes, they are the same. Pounds-force and Pounds (mass) are the same, 1:1 conversion.

https://www.convertunits.com/from/lbf/to/lbs

And the conversion from Kilogram-Force to Pounds-Force is 2.205 like María said.

However, I urge you to keep translation option 1:
- GVWR/GVW 2,960 kgf (6525.7 lbf)

Don't change it to just pounds because that is a measure of mass rather than force.
Yes a mass of the same size would have the same force, but the vehicle specification is about the force produced by the engine, not its mass.

Correction
2960 kilogram-force equals 63995.089 pound
2960 kilogram-force equals 6525.68298306 pound-force

Source:
PTMA/PMA (kgf): 2.960

Potential Translation:

GVWR/GVW 2,960 kgf (6,525.7 lbf)

or

GVWR/GVW 2,960 kgf (63,995.1 lbs) <--This number seems too large for a truck to move.

I do not know much about this, but found this on the internet:

To convert a kilogram-force measurement to a pound-force measurement, multiply the force by the conversion ratio. The force in pound-force is equal to the kilogram-force multiplied by 2.204623.

I have copied the web link below in case it helps.

kgf

Don't convert it. There's no point.

I'm also not sure that PTMA (peso técnico máximo autorizado) is the same as GVWR (gross vehicle weight rating). I would just do a literal translation of the Spanish and avoid confusing abbreviations.

agree Manuel Aburto : Concuerdo con Phil. En las clases de análisis estructural siempre se hacia referencia a kilogramos fuerza (kgf)
