I think it's to do with the way the documents used as evidence are stored, sorted, and checked out for use in court. "Bordereau" means "slip", "note", or "receipt", as in "dispatch note".
"Case" generally means box, but here means something like "sorting batch" or "storage section".
There may be specialised words for these terms in English but keep it general and at least you'll get the meanining - if not the correct style - across.
