Spyro, Not finding an Internet reference for any group of English words is not necessarily an indication or proof that the group of words is incorrect or unsuitable. Also, up to about six years ago, most Kudoz answerers used to provide only one Internet reference for any term or for a part of the term to prove its suitability, yet now most younger translators regard a term to be unsuitable if one cannot find many Internet examples of its use. I had provided two Internet examples of "non causal acknowledgement of the balance', which is enough to indicate that the words 'non causal acknowledgement' are used in financial texts. Also, if you search the Internet for other examples of 'abstract' being synonymous with 'non causal', in English, you will not find any. I looked for a long time this morning and could not find any, myself.

Dear Peter, I understand your concerns, however I believe that the author of the original text just selected the less popular word "αναιτιώδης" instead οf "αφηρημένη". I posted the second link to show you that "αναιτιώδης" is used here as a synonym of "αφηρημένη" and therefore I chose "abstract" for my translation. The text of the second link reads "Επειδή, Αφηρημένη ή Αναιτιώδης αναγνώριση χρέους είναι η σύμβαση με την οποία γίνεται υπόσχεση ή αναγνώριση χρέους κατά τρόπο αφηρημένο (χωρίς σύνδεση με αιτία)" indicating that "abstract" has the meaning of "non-causal" in this context. Besides, I found no reference for the phrase "non-causal acknowledgment of debt" you suggested.

Also, I disagree with your decision to translate ‘αναιτιώδης αναγνώριση χρέους’ as ‘abstract acknowledgement of debt’ simply because your ‘Tax-Haven’ reference writes: ‘Επειδή, Αφηρημένη ή Αναιτιώδης αναγνώριση χρέους είναι η σύμβαση με την οποία γίνεται υπόσχεση ή αναγνώριση χρέους κατά τρόπο αφηρημένο (χωρίς σύνδεση με αιτία)’, because, if that sentence had been translated into English, its English translation would have been: ‘Because, an abstract or non-causal acknowledgement of a debt is the contract by which the promise or acknowledgement of a debt is carried out in an abstract manner (without connection to a cause)’.
Even the person who wrote that paragraph realises that there is a difference between ‘αφηρημένη’ and ‘αναιτιώδης’, and I therefore consider that you are incorrect to translate ‘αναιτιώδης αναγνώριση χρέους’ as ‘abstract acknowledgement of debt’ just because some tax official regards the words to be somewhat synonymous in his particular situation.

Good morning, Your second internet reference correctly gives ‘abstract acknowledgement of debt’ as being the translation of ‘αφηρημένη αναγνώριση χρέους’. Ηowever, I feel that I should remind you that your question asked for a translation of ‘αναιτιώδης αναγνώριση χρέους’ and mention that I could not find any confirmation of the word ‘αναιτιώδης’ having been used in any of the examples you gave. The English language version of the paragraph in your second internet reference also correctly translates ‘αιτιώδης αναγνώριση χρέος’ as ‘causal acknowledgement of debt’ by having translated ‘(αιτιώδης αναγνώριση χρέους, επιβεβαιωτική αναγνώριση χρέους)’ as ‘(mainly from the causal and confirmatory acknowledgement of a debt)’. I therefore cannot understand why you are implying that ‘αναιτιώδης αναγνώριση χρέους’ should be translated as ‘abstract acknowledgement of debt’ when the only examples you have provided give ‘abstract acknowledgement of debt’ as being a translation of ‘αφηρημένη αναγνώριση χρέους’.
