Non-PRO (2): William Bowley, Yvonne Gallagher

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

"Medical School" or "School of Medicine" if the target language is American English.
Wilsonn Perez Reyes Sep 7, 2022:
Traducción literal En las universidades de Latinoamérica, y quizás de España también, se puede hablar de "escuela" o de "facultad". La facultad es un paso más de organización administrativa respecto a la escuela. Así que sería un error decir "School of Medicine".

Ella Rich Sep 5, 2022:
Jessica has it right After just viewing another entry where the "correction" was just another regional variant, these are both correct answers. Many countries use "Faculty of Medicine", but in the US this is not used - medical school for the category or the XXX University School of Medicine.
Jessica Noyes Sep 5, 2022:
No One Correct Answer This is the type of question where it's important to specify the country you are translating for. In Canada, some universities call it the "Faculty of Medicine" and others refer to it as "Medical School". In the U.S., I am seeing "School of Medicine" and "Medical School". In India, it appears to be "Medical College". So the thing for you to do (after making sure that your institution doesn't have an official English translation on its website) is find a list of tertiary institutions of medicines in the country or region for which you are translating, and pick the one that is most commonly used.

Still not convinced it's one size fits all

Do some universities have a Faculty of Medicine and a School of Medicine? Yes. Is "Facultad de Medicina" always a "Faculty of Medicine" and not a "School of Medicine" or "Medical School"? Not in US usage. This is a page published by the NIH. It refers to the Johns Hopkins "Facultad de Medicina". What does Johns Hopkins call its own program? School of Medicine. It does not have a Faculty of Medicine.

The original poster will have to consider the target variant of English and perhaps also the structure of the university in question.
Example sentence:

En 1893 se abrió la facultad de medicina de la Johns Hopkins University.

The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine consistently ranks among the nation’s very best in education.
