Spanish term

millones de guaraníes de 2014

Spanish to English Bus/Financial Economics currency from a specific year
Hello, could someone please let me know what the correct way is to indicate the year that is in the original phrase in the English translation. This is from a report on potential scenarios of public investment in agriculture in Paraguay. Translating from Spanish to UK English. (The customer uses the short scale and ISO currency codes.)

The original phrase is:
...inversión pública en infraestructura productiva equivalente a 0,25% del PIB (1 798 000 millones de guaraníes de 2014)

My take is: PYG 1.798 billion, at the 2014 exchange rate

Thanks very much in advance.

Thanks That makes sense now.
DIANNE BEREST (asker) Oct 31, 2022:
Right, no exchange is involved. Here´s the full sentence: XXX ha desarrollado escenarios para evaluar los efectos de una nueva inversión pública en infraestructura productiva equivalente a 0,25% del PIB (1 798 000 millones de guaraníes de 2014) durante el período 2023-2025, destinándola a diferentes sectores de la agricultura.
philgoddard Oct 31, 2022:
It's not the exchange rate, because there's no exchanging going on. The guaraní is the currency of Paraguay.
Could we have a bit more of the surrounding text, please, so we can understand the relevance of 2014.

in millions of 2014 guaranies

That is the way of stating it in financial documents to indicate that the amount was is guaranies as they were worth in 2014. Here are some examples in the case of the US dollar:

"PYG 1.798 billion in 2014 guaraníes" should do it then.
Note from asker:
Thank you Patinba. I also thought that seemed to be the right way, but according to the client's style guide, we should use ISO codes (before the number) to express currency amounts, so I wasn't sure how to handle that.
Peer comment(s):

agree philgoddard : The plural is guaraní or guaranís.

for the year 2014

Hello,
I think your take can work well taking into account the context. Another option could be "1.798 billion for the year 2014".

Thank you Luciana!
