If your baby is premature, they may be very sensitive to touch. Unlike term babies, premature babies may find the sensation of being stroked very overwhelmingly and may find this stressful. Instead, your nurse will show you how to provide gentle pressure in a “comfort hold position” to provide comfort for your baby. When caring for your baby, the neonatal team will work on a ‘minimal handling’ principle to keep your baby relaxed.
Quiet time:
Twice a day from 12pm to 2pm and again Midnight till 2am, we have quiet time where lights are dimmed and gentle music is played to promote sleep and relaxation for the babies. During this time procedures are minimised to essential procedures only to allow babies uninterrupted rest.
