Portuguese term
A variedade é o tempero da vida.
What I'm looking for is an ** example sentence ** that displays more creativity than the one I found:
"Variety is the spice of life and I enjoy doing many different things." (Duh!!!)
Ideally, the example should contain the phrase in question and be limited to ONE sentence only.
If your answer gets picked, your name will be published as the author of the sentence. See examples on this page: https://masterportuguesetranslator.com/glossaries/dicionario...
The entry will also be linked to this question page on ProZ.
L2: EN-US
Register: idiomatic (must contain the term phrase), other than that, creative writing!
4 +1 | Variety is the spice of life, and monotony is its poison. | Lucas Pocis |

3 | What is life without whimsy? | ZT-Translations |
Dec 31, 2022 02:10: Muriel Vasconcellos changed "Level" from "PRO" to "Non-PRO"
Non-PRO (3): Lara Barnett, philgoddard, Muriel Vasconcellos
When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.
How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:
An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)
A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).
Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.
When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.
* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.
Proposed translations
Variety is the spice of life, and monotony is its poison.
"Variety is the spice of lie, and monotony is what threatens it"
I like poison more because it has something to do with "spices", you add spices to a food to make it tasty, and you add poison to it to kill someone, whereas monotony actually kills your will to be alive.
Interesting. I like the juxtaposition of "spice" and "poison", and I couldn't agree more with you on that. :-) |

It's a well-known expression. There isn't anything similar with the same meaning.
Thank you, Muriel. I know the meaning and the translation. I'm looking for an example sentence that includes the phrase in question. Maybe my explanation wasn't very clear. |

What is life without whimsy?
However, if the idea is to post something entirely creative, then my choice would be "A life without variety is nothing but a pale shade of gray," and a two sentence alternative "Colors are life - And a life without variety is nothing but a pale shade of gray"
Thank you for the fun challenge!

Oh I see what you mean.
Well, I would rephrase it as:
"Variety is the spice of life, And a life without variety is nothing but a pale shade of gray".
Alternatively, if some liberty can be taken with the "variety of life," then I would go with: "Variety is the color of life - And a life without variety is nothing but a pale shade of gray".

Thank you. Indeed, life becomes gray in the absence of variety. How would you rephrase your example sentence so that it includes the term phrase "Variety is the spice of life"? |
Discussion
Yes, it's monolingual English, but it doesn't really belong on KudoZ since you already know the meaning.
