patent application
I am translating a patent application and am looking for a precise translation of this seemingly simple term. However, when you start to look into it, there are various ways to translate this into English.

RAM-geheugen wordt meestal als cache gebruikt, behalve als er in de processor al cache geheugen zit. Language level note: On today's smaller computers, especially personal computers and workstations, the term random access memory (RAM) - or just memory - is used instead of primary or main storage, and the hard disk, diskette, CD, and DVD collectively describe secondary storage or auxiliary storage.

working memory
A Von Neumann architecture comprises:
* CU = control unit
* ALU = arithmetic/logic unit
* memory = working memory
That's it... the memory can be RAM, DRAM, SSD, etc.
Anything else would suggest an alternative architecture... so I can only guess why your author is making such a differentiation.

Primary Storage – What is Primary storage?
By Dinesh Thakur
Primary Storage, also known as main storage or memory, is the main area in a computer in which data is stored for quick access by the computer’s processor. Information must be transferred to primary storage. On today’s smaller computers, especially personal computers and workstations, the term random access memory (RAM) – or just memory – is used instead of primary, main storage, core memory, or immediate access storage, internal storage, and the hard disk, diskette, CD, and DVD collectively describe secondary storage or auxiliary storage.
It allows very fast access to data. It is relatively move expensive. A CPU has three element or parts primary storage, arithmetic logic unit (ALU), and control unit. Primary storage is fast and expensive as compared to secondary storage.
The terms main storage and auxiliary storage originated in the days of the mainframe computer to distinguish the more immediately accessible data storage from storage that required input/output operations.

'primary memory' and 'primary storage' are interchangeable. (The same goes for 'non-volatile memory (NVM) and non-volatile storage https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-volatile_memory )
What Does Primary Memory Mean?
Primary memory is computer memory that a processor or computer accesses first or directly. It allows a processor to access running execution applications and services that are temporarily stored in a specific memory location.

Primary memory is also known as primary storage or main memory.
Techopedia Explains Primary Memory
Primary memory is a computer system’s volatile storage mechanism. It may be random access memory (RAM), cache memory or data buses, but is primarily associated with RAM.
As soon as a computer starts, primary memory loads all running applications, including the base operating system (OS), user interface and any user-installed and running software utility. A program/application that is opened in primary memory interacts with the system processor to perform all application-specific tasks.
Primary memory is considered faster than secondary memory.

Discussion
=
The memory comprises a working memory and non-volatile memory for storing, for example, data, such as images captured by the camera, and, for example, a program executed by the processor, wherein the method is executed when the program is executed.
