I have a CERTIFICACION DE ACTA DE NACIMIENTO that has this phrase under marginal notes.

How should "impugnacion" be translated here?

It almost sounds like the certificate has been challenged somehow.

AB Please learn the translation of "legal" - "legal" frequently being a false friend; cf "légal" (French) in FHS Bridge. Also note that in asker's text "legal" is the adjective that goes with "nota" and not "impugnacion"

Context I agree with the above. Without further context, which is none, I don't think I can assume it has to do with paternity. But it's obvious a "legal challenge".

Perhaps... Without further context, my only guess is that the child's certificate could be under review in a proceeding questioning the validity of the certificate, as regards the [handwritten] content, possible dispute between the parents, etc.

I thought it reasonable to assume the asker would know how to translate 'aparece' and explained legal challenge as relating to paternity, and FYI there is no mention of anything STATUTORY in the ST; hence why my answer was chosen over AMM's;

There is a pre-existing ProZ glossary entry, though acknowlegement of paternity IMO might be jumping the gun. There may be other reasons for the challenge.

Otherwise, unlikely to be a 'paternity suit*e* of rooms', rather a paternity suit or - excuse the expression - US AmE: 'bastardy proceeding', Barron's US Law Dictionary. Some of us correspondence-course and face-to-face students of UK family law had been weaned on Affiliation Proceedings. I can't recall anything like a caution or caveat being entered on the birth certificate when paternity had been in doubt.

Impugnar la paternidad significa anular o rescindir todos los derechos y obligaciones del padre legal. Las opciones para impugnar la paternidad dependerán de cómo se estableció la paternidad en primer lugar. Una persona NO PUEDE impugnar la paternidad si se realizan pruebas genéticas a través de los tribunales y se confirma que un hombre es el padre biológico de un niño; sin embargo, el padre legal aún puede rescindir todos los derechos y obligaciones como padre legal mediante la terminación de los derechos parentales, que es algo separado y distinto de la impugnación de la paternidad.
