Spanish term

ámbito

Non-PRO Spanish to English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature
Another Márquez question. It comes from the sentence: El ámbito de la casa es amplio y luminoso...
I´ve searched this word in various contexts but am unsure what fits in this particular case (when referring to specific property). Some of the definitions I´ve found include: sphere, field, scope and ambience... none of which really seem to fit.

surroundings, atmosphere

I wouldn't be too literal here:
"House surroundings are bright and spacious." "The atmosphere of the house is bright and spacious."
If it's literature, it will also depend on how sentence rhythm balances the sentences before and after. Play with it until you get it right. Hope that's of some help!
