Discussion

Paula Sepúlveda (X) May 10, 2009:
Definition In Spain, to my understanding, in a city which has more than one court house, the jutjats de guàrdia take turns being "on duty" for a week and process all the cases that take place in that city during that period. These duties, or shifts, rotate each week.
Ross Andrew Parker May 10, 2009:

agree Paula Sepúlveda (X) : In fact, jutjats de guàrdia in Spain do not operate at night, which raises my doubts as to my correct translation.

agree Ross Andrew Parker : Ah... I see you've already put "police court".

Yes, my dictionary only gives "night court" as the translation, but it seems sort of restrictive. Thank you.

Sessions court

I don't know if they still do this in the UK, but weren't travelling courts that went around from place to place dealing with local offenders known as "sessions courts" or "assizes"? Isn't that kind of the idea here?

Just giving you another idea to bounce around.
