A variety of hash functions can be used to create the digests, such as CRC, MD5 and others. The digester can generate separate digests for header and body parts of a cell and generate digests by layer within a cell. Comments, whitespace and functionally significant data can be separately digested. Digests can be stored persistently for later use.
The comparer checks digests for one file against digests for one or more other files. The reporter, responsive to filtering criteria, reports matches between cells in the respective files, near-matches, or cells in one file that are not found in the other files.
