English term or phrase: Ratched down
In a piece of opinion article about economics there is this sentence:
"Another option for western countries would be to ratchet down oil imports rather than halting them completely."

According to the internet, it means "to grow less in scope or intensity especially gradually"

Could anyone help me find the equivalent word for "ratchet down" in Indonesian?

Thank you for your help.

ratched down
mengecilkan keran / mengecilkan kucuran

Explanation:

Example sentence(s):
  • Salah satu opsi negara-negara barat adalah mengecilkan keran impor minyak alih-alih menghentikannya sama sekali.
  • Salah satu pilihan negara-negara barat adalah memperkecil kucuran impor minyak alih-alih menghentikannya sama sekali.
