The refracting lane length is defined as the distance from the eye chart to the patient’s eye during the manifest refraction.

If the examination lane has a mirrored (optically folded) system, the lane length is the distance from the patient’s eye to the viewing mirror plus the distance from the viewing mirror to the screen or projector.

lane length = distance from eye to mirror + distance from mirror to screen/projector
