At its heart, prayer entails communion with God. It involves a sense of the presence of God. But prayer as communion with God goes beyond the mere enjoyment of God's presence. Rather, prayer is the activity of communicating with the God in whose presence we exist. This activity presupposes a standing-over-against Another, a relationship of the pray-er to the One addressed in prayer.
