The eyes are collected, fixed in 10% neutral buffered formalin and choroidal flatmounts are subsequently prepared in order to examine the extent of neovascularization. The number of burns without CNV in the treated (OS) eye is compared to the contralateral (OD) eye to determine the efficacy of the fusion protein. See, e.g., Example 5.

"Svaki predmet ili deo predmeta podešen ili pripremljen tako da se može posmatrati mikroskopom, nazivamo mikroskopskim preparatom. Ako su delovi koje želimo da posmatramo delovi tkiva ili organa onda takav preparat nazivamo histološkim preparatom. Delići prepariranih tkiva ili organa, tanko isečeni i obojeni, smešteni su između dve nejednake staklene pločice. Jedna pločica je deblja i duga i ona nosi objekat koji se posmatra, pa se i naziva nosač objekta ili predmetno staklo, a druga, manja i tanja, služi za prekrivanje objekta na nosaču i naziva se pokrovna ljuspica."
