Maintenance that results in improvement can unexpectedly have far-reaching consequences. This type of
maintenance should therefore be dealt with in compliance with the rules for a modification, see Module 6.
Maintenance that results in improvement may involve:
• Using different materials, such as stainless steel instead of carbon steel, metal instead of plastic or visa
versa.
• Increasing the strength or modifying a component or structure, such as using heavier diagonals or
thicker materials.
• Using a key way instead of a clamping bush.
