seeing is auditing life seeing is merely cataloguing Explanation: The speaker is comparing what he considers to be the limited, rather pedestrian talents of managers with the creative vision of leaders. He is using the metaphor of sight. "Seeing is auditing life" i.e. merely drawing up an inventory of facts, which he associates with the limited talents of mere managers. "Vision is interpreting life so that others may see it” i.e. those with vision (leaders) give sense and meaning to life and influence/enlighten others. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 2 hrs (2014-01-23 14:11:10 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Regarding your follow-up questions: <I>"I also have a problem to understand the 'auditing life.' I can understand If it says 'auditing work' but why he said 'life'." Because he is trying to make a general, important, philosophical point and "auditing work" would be meaningless. "I am also wonderting why he said 'seeing is...' in the first sentence and 'vision is...' in the second. Why he did not say 'visioning is...'" Because "visioning is ..." would be meaningless in this context. He is talking about leaders possessing vision, not about a technique. |
