Hello everyone,
From the TV series Abandoned Engineering, Season 4, Episode 3.
Two people are talking about the same place.
Speaker 1: The architecture of the buildings is highly unusual, but very specific. They were created explicitly for the purpose of understanding the behaviour of weaponry and explosions.
Speaker 2: This is a place designed so that if the pillars are blown up, the roof drops down and clamps all of the explosion and debris down into the ground.
I don't think understand is used in its usual sense here.
Something tells me that "They were created explicitly for the purpose of understanding the behaviour of weaponry and explosions." means basically the same as "a place designed so that if the pillars are blown up, the roof drops down and clamps all of the explosion and debris down into the ground."
But it's just my interpetation.
