Finnish term
VAT (vastaanottotodistus) numero
Finnish to English
Other
Forestry / Wood / Timber
General
I had explanation, that it means "certificate of reception", however I have doubts, if this explanation is correct, as I can't find any equivalent commonly used English term. Maybe it means Certificate of Registration (i.e. the same VAT or tax-payer number)?

acknowledgement of receipt
My Finnish-English law dictionary translates it as "acknowledgement of receipt, acceptance certificate, certificate of receipt, inspection certificate". It doesn't mean VAT as in value-added tax, which is usually ALV (arvonlisävero) in Finnish.

I just translated "vastaanottotodistus", but I'm sure you're right, Marju! Though why say VAT numero if you can say ALV numero?

I don't see any big problems here. There is first an intra-company abbreviation "VAT", then its explanation in parenthesis (VAstaanotTotodistus). First, it is quite common to use this kind of three-letter abbreviations, especially in programming/bookkeeping applications. Second, it is also quite common to add the translation in parenthesis, which also shows that the writer does not expect even the Finnish reader to know what for VAT is here.
The fact that VAT means “value added tax” in English doesn’t count at all here, this is all in Finnish. I am sure that there are thousands of “VAT” abbreviations in hundreds of languages, which haven’t anything to do with “value added tax”.

Sorry, it should be (VAstaanottoTodistus). I capitalized a wrong 't'.
