faune auxiliaire

Ths is from a text on sustainable viticulture:
"Depuis longtemps les Maisons de Champagne utilisent la lutte biologique pour limiter de manière importante l’emploi de produits de traitement. La lutte biologique consiste à utiliser et à favoriser le développement de la **faune auxiliaire**. Elle est donc ipso facto naturelle. Par exemple, pour lutter contre les araignées parasites de la vigne, nous avons favorisé l’implantation et le développement de Typhlodromes, ces acariens prédateurs qui éliminent les araignées parasites de la vigne."
I don't know the proper term for this. Help please?

In this case, call a spade a spade

Biological Control is defined as the reduction of pest populations by natural enemies and typically involves an active human role. Natural enemies of insect pests, also known as biological control agents, include predators, parasitoids, and pathogens. Biological control agents of plant diseases are most often referred to as antagonists. Biological control agents of weeds include herbivores and plant pathogens. Predators, such as lady beetles and lacewings, are mainly free-living species that consume a large number of prey during their lifetime.

: Yes, beneficial sounds a good idea (I'd found "helpful fauna" on a BBC page)

naturally occurring pest-controlling fauna
I'm pretty sure that you're right to avoid auxiliary fauna. Can't find a satisfactory short translation for the time being, so this might do, although long-winded.

: a fauna tends to be "naturally-occurring" per se, doesn't it ?

True, probably redundant, although the naturally occurring was more referring to the pest-control element. Anyway, please see my agree with suezen and discussion post. Thanks Francis.

: this is the scientific term. OK for a paper, not so clear for marketing.

auxiliary insects and other natural predators
if insects only, auxiliary insects is THE expression. Check out the FAO and pest control & IPM sites. The translation "auxiliary fauna" is found and, logically, if auxiliary insects exist, why not "auxiliary fauna" or "animal auxiliaries," if the context is clear?

the development of pest-suppression by predators
you have to recast and paraphrase the term into a Eng. phrase that would translate "le développement de la faune auxiliaire". You should not seek a term-to-term translation.
