ornamental frieze around the edge Explanation: "The side edge of the whole lid is decorated with the customary ornamental frieze made up of an ivory fillet between two ebony fillets." I assume that we are still talking about this mirror case: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vsTHNyj6BK8/VaYHwjyjTuI/AAAAAAAAsj... But that he's describing the very narrow side edges of the lid which are *not* visible in that shot --since the ornamental frieze which we can see on the top of the lid is definitely not made up of an ivory fillet between two ebony fillets. This is really quite a de lux item, with intricate inlay work all around the narrow edge of the lid --i.e., Time, Out of Mind (as usual). |
