French term

défaut acquitté

French to English Tech/Engineering Computers: Software machinery fault management system
This is from the manual for a fault management software program (factory machinery)

- Un défaut actif est de couleur rouge.
- Un défaut acquitté est de couleur jaune
- Un défaut retombé est de couleur verte

I know I've seen this before, but can;t seem to find a good reference for it. Thanks for any help...

fault that has been acknowledged

You ought to have seen it before in the glossary, as this term has come up at least once before — and I would refer you to the earlier question(s) for a much fuller discussion of all the possible meanings of this term.

The trouble is, different writers use it differently, and hence the EN term needed varies quite a lot; you may need to look for other clues in your wider text in order to try and find out what your particular writer intended it to mean!

agree B D Finch : Or, simply, "acknowledged fault".

Thanks, B! :-) Yes, of course; don't know why I expressed it this way round, guess I was trying to explain it; and we must be careful it doesn't translate like « défaut reconnu »
