French term
EDDSI
French to English
Social Sciences
Education / Pedagogy
Sustainable Development
This isn't so much a request for help with the translation but with the associated acronym.
The document relates to a European initiative "Education au Développement Durable et à la Solidarité Internationale" - aka "EDDSI".
The source text frequently uses the term "EDDSI" and clearly using the acronym is much more elegant and easier than using the full sentence.
My question is: should I use the same source acronym EDDSI, or should I use the acronym that relates to the translated title of the initiative?
Many thanks for any thoughts or advice.

Education for Sustainable Development and International Solidarity (ESDIS)
This is not actually a European Initiative. As can be seen from the reference below, it is associated with the European initiative "Acteurs Non Etatiques et Autorités Locales dans le Développement".

As there doesn't seem to be an official English translation and the REDDSO website is poorly translated, I would translate it as above and give the acronym of that coined name in brackets after the first occurrence, thereafter using the acronym on its own.

If retaining the French acronym, then the use of brackets, capitalisation and order for the first occurrence would be different. i.e. EDDSI (education for sustainable development and international solidarity)

Note from asker:
Thank you, that was my thinking too. Good to have a reliable co-Prozer confirm it. |
