French term

affectation

French to English Tech/Engineering Electronics / Elect Eng
From a company report on the dilapidated state of its audiovisual equipment:

La captation audiovisuelle des séances de conférence ou de formation se déroulant dans l'Amphithéâtre et l'Auditorium et leur diffusion en salle passe par l'utilisation (dans chacune des régies) d'une grille de commutation des signaux par laquelle transitent tous le signaux audiovisuels. Seule cette grille permet leur réception et leur *affectation.*

Not being very familiar with this technology, I'm not sure if the term is "assign" or something else.

Thanks for any insight!

routing

As I see it, the signals are routed through a switching matrix (I think this is the term for "grille") to their respective destinations; this is just an idea, and obviously, I remain open to correction from colleagues, hence the "low" ranking.
Peer comment(s):

agree Tony M : Very prudent! I think this term lmight well be the more appropriate one (and I confirm the translation of 'grille' as '(switching) matrix'

assignment

Looks like assign is okay.

The SB-440 includes a versatile switching matrix which allows up to ten different groups of stations to be assigned to any one of the four channels.

transmission / transmitted

I may be oversimplifying this, but since it's referring to the previously mentioned audiovisual signals it may simply be ' they (they signals) can only be received and transmitted through this grid"
Peer comment(s):

disagree Tony M : Sorry, but this really is too much of an oversimplifcation; the technical implication is more important than just that. It is a "what-goes-to-where" situation
