I have a little problem with the expression "groupe tournant" in a list of features of a company's information system.

The list deals with power supply for this information system such as :

- Onduleurs et ***groupes tournants*** pour l'alimentation électrique.

I think this is a kind of power generator... but what about "tournant"? Any idea? Sorry I don't have much context...

neutral Tony M : I do have some reservations, as IME 'rotary convertors' are either used for converting DC into AC (or v-v), or for changing the frequency of an AC supply; not clear if either of these functions is what it's being used for here

neutral Jennifer Levey : A 'motor-generator' is just one of several types of 'groupe tournant', so there's a risk that this might be incorrect in the asker's specific context.//Yes. It's most likely a 'diesel alternator' in this case - and that's different to a 'motor-generator'

agree Bourth (X) : I'd have said "generating set" since this is what I understand it to be from context. Maybe Mediamatrix would like to tell us what a "groupe tournant" is, other than a genset and some sort of gang bang, because I don't know!
