French term

échelle racleuse

French to English Tech/Engineering Energy / Power Generation Biomass boilers
Yet another obscure device for unloading wood fuels from silos:

Alimentée selon le projet par un système vérin poussoir ou dans le cas d’un combustible maitrisé (réf G20 à G50) par une vis, elle est compatible avec tous types de transferts (vis ou convoyeur) depuis un silo à **échelles racleuses** ou des systèmes à désileurs planétaires et bras articulés.

I've come across ladder scrapers on various sites but these have all been translated from French, so I'm somewhat dubious. I've asked for a picture, but nothing forthcoming yet.

Many thanks again

Discussion

Bourth (X) Oct 22, 2009:
I haven't researched "push floor" any further but as I understand it, it's a system that while having reciprocating elements, remains in the same plane at all times, so its purpose is "simply" to loosen a material. AIUI, toujours, a walking floor has parallel beams which, in a reciprocating movement, MOVE a material in a particular direction, i.e. one set of (alternate) beams is raised, moved forward, lowered (depositing the material a certain distance forward), and moved back. Either it resumes its cycle for another step forward, or the second set of beams engages its cycle (is raised) when the first set has reached the end of its forward movement. This would result in faster movement than with a "single action" walking floor. Walking floors are used to discharge stuff from trucks for example (my cement client has waste fuel delivered in semitrailers with walking floors), i.e. where there is headroom and not a great weight of material above, I imagine. I can't see walking beams being used in silos - what point in lifting the contents, impossible anyway with powders etc.
Claire Cox (asker) Oct 22, 2009:
Entry from the above ref. file ..which seems to fit in with the picture in Chris' link:

As opposed to a sliding frame, A variation in the design is the ‘walking floor’ type. This consists of a flat silo floor frame divided into several strips, which oscillate alternately to and fro alongside each other. At one end of the assembly there is a clearance down which solids fall on to a screw conveyor.
Claire Cox (asker) Oct 22, 2009:
Sliding frame/walking floor Re your latest addendum Alex, I've just come across a useful report about various types of silo discharging equipment and wondered if this might be the sliding frame or walkng floor described on page 29 of the report in the link:

Only a few days ago I came across gratteur and jeteur, in the context of storage of crushed rock for making cement, and they turned out to be "reclaimer" and "scraper" respectively. These may be related.

But, but, but .... here we have a "push floor" :
The PUSH FLOOR is driven by a hydraulic system that moves a number of parallel Pusher Elements or 'LADDERS' in reciprocating motion across the bunker flat floor. As it does so it digs the stored bulk solid material from the bunker and delivers it to a screw conveyor or other machines. Either the screw or the Pusher Elements themselves perform the required metering function from the bunker

This is the best I can come up with. However, there is a nice picture of them at: http://www.ofme.org/bois-energie/chaudieres.php and a description:

Note from asker:
Brilliant site, Chris - many thanks! I see Alex has come up with the same reference too. So much better when you can actually see a picture of what's going on!
