French term

boissellerie

French to English Other Forestry / Wood / Timber wood manufacturing
We know what this industry makes (all sorts of wooden objects from barrels to cheese boxes, poles and carts) but what is it called in English as an inustry or sector? All help appreciated! Woodworking doesn't seem to cover it.
Proposed translations (English)
4 wood products
3 +2 white cooperage
2 wooden ware
2 woodworking sector

Bushel I remember my parents buying a bushel of apples every fall in the Niagra Peninsula - its apparently bulk measurement equalling 35.24 litres ;-) It held a lot of apples. But, those wooded bushels would certainly be made by the boissellerie industy! Thanks for your help! PS they were lovely apples too!
French2English Oct 2, 2007:
Well, my Harraps (which you've probably checked!) says: 'bushel making' for boissellerie' ! Never quite sure what a bushel is - thought it was an oldey worldey measurement of some sort... but anyway, just thought I'd drop you a line!

I have come up against this problem several times before, and never really found one single satisfactory solution. I have usually found an explanation is the best way out...

wood products

Another possibility.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Hey, we like this, thanks. We shall just add sector. It is a tossup between this and the woodworking sector, both are good."

white cooperage

An option.
Note from asker:
Yes, we saw that too, but it seems to refer mostly to barrels and such. Here we are talking about cheese and wine boxes, wooden spoons, posts for vinyards, etc.
Peer comment(s):

agree Tony M : That's certainly the official translation, though I doubt most people would understand the meaning in EN!

wooden ware

Found by accident in the entry under wooden spoon here
http://www.conceptexplore.com/xml_files/html_files/DictFile_...
Also here listed as an economic activity
http://www.statistics.gov.uk/methods_quality/sic/indexW.asp

This certainly applies to cheese boxes, wine boxes, wooden spoons, etc.
However, posts and carts are a little more bothersome, hence my low confidence

woodworking sector

I've googled this idea with quite a lot of hits.

I know you said it didn't cover it, but perhaps adding sector or the likes is the only thing you can do to encompass everthing... depending on your context you could use Miranda's woodenwares but this really seems to be for smaller items.
Note from asker:
This is pretty close. We have also now found the woodworking industry as the manufacture of decorative and utilitarian objects .
