French term

cohérence temporelle calculée.

French to English Science Geology seismic soundings
Context:

An invention for finding underground fluids.
I`m getting lost with difference between temporal and time.
Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
TIA Chris.

Discussion

chris collister Feb 3, 2021:
coherence is an important tool in the statistician's toolbox, related to correlation in the sense that it is a measure of how similar (or not) two waves are. Coherence doesn't necessarily apply just to time varying signals, but is also important e.g. in comparing imaging signals from satellites or radar surveys. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coherence_(physics). Temporal and time are pretty much interchangeable.

"temporal coherence" is a thing There are a number of references to this term in geological sources:

But I'm no expert...

"Temporal Coherence is a measure of the correlation of light wave’s phase at different points along the direction of propagation." http://users.ntua.gr/eglytsis/OptEng/Coherence_p.pdf It doesn't just apply to light waves though.
A good explanation (complete with ducks on water waves!) is shown here https://www.cyberphysics.co.uk/MobileVersion/topics/waves/co... .

http://gdt.oqlf.gouv.qc.ca/ficheOqlf.aspx?Id_Fiche=8408643 gives a translation with the explanation in terms of light waves.

Temporal coherence is used in seismic evaluations of oil fields described here https://www.earthdoc.org/content/papers/10.3997/2214-4609.20...

Asker, as far as I can tell they are used interchangeably, see

http://www.electropedia.org/iev/iev.nsf/display?openform&iev...
https://link.springer.com/referenceworkentry/10.1007/1-4020-...

However, temporal coherence seems to be used more frequently than time coherence in books and publications.
Note from asker:
Hi, if I may ask the question, what is the difference between temporal coherence and time coherence?
Something went wrong...
