Spelling sensitive
it's early :-(
Conor McAuley (asker) Mar 31, 2006:
Thanks writeaway The problem with the search engine is that it is senstive to accents - i.e. "é" is not = "e". The entry was for "acompte conge".

Thanks a mill! ;-)
Conor McAuley (asker) Mar 30, 2006:
Thanks Tony It must be that the concept of closing down a business completely to go on holidays is a little foreign to me! ;-)

downpayment to cover leave period

I think you'll find that's what it is; if you are going to close down your business for the holidays, and hence be unable to send in your regular VAT installments on time, you have to make an advance payment to cover the forecast amount of the VAT for that period.

I do not know if a dedicated term exists in EN for this.

paid leave

In the U.S., vacations and holiday are taxed at a different rate than regular salary.

neutral Tony M : I think you'll find this is specifically relating to VAT [roughly, US 'sales tax'] and not income tax as such (thoiugh I could be wrong...)
