Does anybody know what is meant by "pour évoluer vers un poste". I'm just a little confused, does it mean that she will aim for the position of manager?

This is another way of saying it, with more emphasis on the idea of "rising through the ranks based on merit."
The register is a touch informal, though.

If referring to the future:
She was hired as an engineer by our firm with aspirations of becoming a manager one day / in order to become a manager one day.
Or, referring to her career with the firm (past)
She was hired as an engineer by our firm and went on to become a manager.
I don't think the first sentence would be likely in a letter of recommendation. Usually letters of recommendation talk about the candidate's achievements.
I think that 'ensuite' is understood in the French: pour ensuite évoluer...
