French term
allègement thérapeutique
French to English
Medical
Medical (general)
This term appears in a questionnaire on HIV prevention and treatment, both as a heading and in the following sentence: "L’allègement thérapeutique des ARV (antirétroviraux) consiste à alléger la dose de son traitement, soit en diminuant le nombre de comprimés à prendre à chaque prise, soit en diminuant le nombre de jours par semaine où vous prenez vos médicaments." My searches on the Internet were not fruit. Any help would be much appreciate. TIA

regimen simplification
This is the closest match of expressions in general use, I think. Allègement thérapeutique is an ARV treatment strategy involving a combination of simplification and dosage reduction, once the virus is under control. In English, the terms "deintensification" and "less drug regimen" are occasionally found, but in the context of "regimen simplification".
"Comment un allègement thérapeutique pourrait-il fonctionner concrètement?
Il existe plusieurs propositions:
1. Simplification:
There's also "congé thérapeutique", but this idea has been abandoned.

"Regimen Simplification
Synonym(s): Treatment Simplification
Making changes to an HIV treatment regimen to make medication adherence easier. Simplifying an HIV regimen can include reducing the number of antiretroviral (ARV) drugs in the regimen or changing to a combination ARV drug that provides a one-pill, once-daily complete regimen. Other changes can include switching to ARV drugs that cause fewer adverse effects or to ARV drugs that can be taken without food. Benefits of regimen simplification include long-term medication adherence, reduced risk of treatment failure, and improved quality of life."

–Reduce number of doses
–Reduce number of pills
–Reduce number of drugs" (p. 47)
–Reduce costs"

: Simplification does not imply dose reduction as clearly stated in the source text.

: I think that in your reference, "Simplification thérapeutique ou allègement", "ou" must mean "alternatively" rather than "also known as".

Yes, that could be so.
