French term

phlébite bilatérale proximate du côté gauche

French to English Medical Medical (general)
Really confused by this:

il s'agit d'une embolie pulmonaire bilatérale de moyenne sévérité en rapport avec une phlébite bilatérale proximate du côté gauche.

I assumed 'du côté gauche' meant this is in the left leg, but what about the '[phlébite] bilatérale' bit? What is bilateral? This suggests both legs, or am I reading this wrong?!

Thank you!

bilateral = on both sides
Note from asker:
Thanks - but what is bilateral here? I don't understand...
Ok- thanks blkh, I get it thanks to your comment! :)
Yeah, I see that now. I didn't realise that "proximal" was only referring to the left so I thought it was saying that the proximal thrombus was in the left leg and bilateral (indicating in the left AND right leg) which would have made no sense!
Peer comment(s):

agree blkh : OK, it's only proximal on the left side

Proximal bilateral thrombosis on the left side

"Proximal" (=Popliteal and above) in opposition with "Distal" (=below the Popliteal).
