French term

Centre de référence constitutif

French to English Medical Medical (general) Email
Hi,
I need to translate a hospital name directly into English for an agency translation and am stumped by "constitutif"
"Centre de référence constitutif Adulte Hôpital Foch"
Thanks

Discussion

Sue Davis Sep 18, 2022:
It is not a great translation! but it appears to be one that the hospital uses
Emmanuella Sep 18, 2022:
I agree as regards the poor translation . As I mentioned, it will be hard to find the right term.
philgoddard Sep 18, 2022:
Emmanuella Your reference is a poor translation. And "centre of excellence" has a specific meaning in healthcare which I believe may be appropriate here.
Emmanuella Sep 18, 2022:
Un 'Centre de référence' n'est pas un 'Centre d'excellence'.
'Constitutif' - ph-b a donné la bonne définition, difficile à trouver en anglais, comme Phil l'a indiqué.
philgoddard Sep 18, 2022:
I think "centre de référence'" is a centre of excellence, but I don't think "constitutive" conveys any clear meaning in English.
joanna menda (asker) Sep 17, 2022:
Thanks Phil!
Sue Davis Sep 17, 2022:
thanks Phil I think you are right
ph-b (X) Sep 17, 2022:
centre de référence constitutif It means it is part of (il est constitutif de) a network, managed by a centre coordonnateur. La présente procédure vise à actualiser la liste de ces CRMR et à reconnaitre leurs sites de centres coordonnateurs et leurs sites de centres constitutifs. Ainsi, un CRMR est ici défini comme un ensemble organisé en réseau, comprenant un centre de référence coordonnateur, un ou plusieurs centres de référence(s)
constitutif(s) le cas échéant, et un ou plusieurs CCMR.
