français term

société simple

français vers anglais Droit / Brevets Immobilier Vente à terme of property
Swiss document - Vente à terme

After the Etat Descriptif de l'immeuble which includes commune, numéro d'immeuble etc.

there's

Propriété
Propriété commune
Société simple
(names of husband and wife who are selling the property)

I've found (simple) partnership in IATE but there's no mention anywhere else in the document of this "société simple".

What kind of "société" is it?

TIA

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

PRO (1): AllegroTrans

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

Maria Constant (X) (asker) May 19, 2008:
No AllegroTrans there's nothing at all to suggest that the couple have actually formed a partnership. They are as you say simply selling the property as joint owners.
AllegroTrans May 18, 2008:
More context: is there anything to suggest that the husband and wife have actually formed a partnership or are they simply selling the property as joint owners?

partnership or association

basing it on the German and the explanation provided in German (sorry-but that's often the way to get Swiss terms-and the reverse is true too (ie see the French term in order to understand German term). people in it are called partners and it can only be founded by natural persons

The fact that there is no mention of this société simple elsewhere in the document leads me to believe this could be well be simply a statement of joint ownership - ie husband and wife are joint owners - the "simple" would mean they are jont and several owners

neutral Kim Metzger : What is page full of Google entries supposed to prove? That there is such a thing as "joint proprietors"? I think we already know that. /In rare cases, simply showing that a term exists in the target language is all that's needed. Not here.
41 minutes
please read my reasoning/how do "we" know that and who are "we"?/my suggestion is intended for the asker's guidance/what is your own suggestion?
neutral writeaway : do you know Swiss law well enough to be sure they haven't formed a sort of partnership for the purposes (ie partnership under the law)? or did they just use that term because they couldn't find anything else?

I don't know Swiss law well, hence only medium CL-but pls bear in mind that asker has confirmed this is simply a sale by joint proprietors-it certainly does not appear to be a sale by a business
