"Diese Woche kam nach langer Zeit eine Karte von Strasser aus Triest. Er ist schon 6 Monate in Italien, hat von einem Cousin aus Los Angeles ein sehr gutes Affidavit und erhielt vom Wr. amerik. Konsulat die Auskunft, daß er dort nicht registriert sei, worüber er sehr verzagt ist. Alles kommt gewöhnlich anders als man denkt."

Asker: I thought about that, but found out with a bit of research that the American Consulate in Vienna was closed in 1938 and didn't reopen until after the war.

agree  Björn Vrooman: "After the Anschluss of 1938 incorporated Austria into Nazi Germany, the U.S. Legation in Vienna was closed and became a Consulate General. The Vienna Consulate General was closed July 9, 1941..." It's 1940, so I don't see the problem.

agree  uyuni: That's what I thought. Until the 'Anschluss' it was the US embassy in Austria's capital and became just a consulate afterwards...
