or 'occiput anterior position', which should be one of the best positions for birth. Yes, by all means the sentence also refers to the position of the baby as it was being born. However, I think the 'salutierende Haenden' part may refer to the baby's body language after birth. According to Uyuni's reference it would be a sign of stress and it could be the contrast between a normal birth position but the baby girl being stressed after the event.

Hmmm, I was thinking that this sentence referred to the position of the baby as it was being born, but given uyuni's references and looking back at the sentence, it's really not clear that it meant that or if it referred to the baby's body language just after birth. What impression do you all have?
