English translation: property/building survey

Real Estate / Real estate expert opinion
German term or phrase: Befundaufnahme
This is an Austrian document, an expert opinion on developing some real estate.
My question is, does Befundaufnahme mean 'recording of findings' or does it mean survey?

English translation:property/building survey
Explanation:
"Räume im 1. OG" seems to point to the building as such, rather than to the entire site/plot of land. Is your wider context a property/real estate valuation? At any rate, I'd use "survey", which also implies the "recording" notion.

See, for example, https://mccallums.uk/what-are-the-different-types-of-buildin...
"A building survey is an expert inspection of a property’s condition. It identifies any problems with the building to a prospective buyer. The inspection is completed by a surveyor who visits the property and prepares a report outlining any problems."

"Befundaufnahme" seems to be an Austrian variation on "Bestandsaufnahme".

agree  Björn Vrooman: Actually, it seems like you do a survey in AT to get to a valuation (which might be different in ENS countries, where a detailed inspection doesn't seem necessary to estimate property values). Cf. https://ibbv.at/was-enthaelt-ein-befund-im-gutachten/

-> True - only the asker would be in a position to tell if this survey is part of a valuation or not.

neutral  Adrian MM.: our Befundaufnahme in Vienna covered land boundaries only and had nowt to do with a valuation.

-> This is not what I assumed per se - note that I requested further information from the asker re. the relevance of the valuation aspect.

agree  Nicole Tata: or perhaps consider ‘site visit’ or ‘physical inspection’ to differentiate it from the survey report?

-> Yes, that's also a distinct possibility, as is "site inspection".

independent surveyor's record of findings (AUT e.g. land boundaries)

Explanation:
The asker in point likes a high confidence-level answer. So here it is.

There was, a few years ago, a Befundaufnahme of our back yard's boundary fencing and of nothing else.

Example sentence(s):

neutral  Steffen Walter: "Räume im 1.OG" seems to indicate that the survey in question relates to the building rather than the land. Your own context is totally different.

neutral  philgoddard: An independent surveyor's record of findings is a survey.

neutral  AllegroTrans: If a surveyor males a record of findings, that surely is a survey. "High confidence-level answer" doesn't prove anything

"Der entscheidungswesentliche Teil des Gutachtens ist der Befund (Feststellungen, Schlussfolgerungen). Die Feststellung beweiserheblicher Tatsachen ist die Befundaufnahme. Die Tätigkeit selbst wird auch als Befundung bezeichnet."

Expanding on what Phil wrote, if you needed to strictly distinguish "Befundung" from "Befundaufnahme," you might use the gerunds "assessing/evaluating/inspecting."
