This comes from a 1913 record of birth and baptism in what is now Poland. The individuals involved were ethnic Germans.

"...въ присутствіи Августа Вегнеръ, тридцати однои года, земледѣльца изъ Сушева, и Фридриха Флюградъ, пятидесяти лѣтъ, пожизненника изъ Гнойна..."

I read it as: "...in the presence of August Wegner, aged thirty-one years, a farmer from Suszewo, and Friedrich Pflugrad, aged fifty years, a ????? from Gnojno..."

It has been suggested that the word пожизненник refers to a "lifer," i.e. prisoner with a life sentence. However, this doesn't seem to be the case here, as the individual appeared in church for a baptism! Could it mean he was "life-long resident" of Gnojno? I can't find the word in any dictionaries I have access to.

neutral  Vladimir Dubisskiy: "permanent resident" is a legal status and i doubt it applies here (also it implies that the second person is not); i would use a neutral "settler" ("settler from Gnojno")
