: There are plenty of flies in the woods. "them flies" is grammatically incorrect and would be appropriate only if the particular character speaks that way.

Of course, it's not King's English, and it's not quite clear from the exerpt provided that the character speaks in "that way", so I took a little liberty here, but I had a vague impression of something homely and downright colloquial in his speech
