agree Sandro Tomasi : I would think that "juicio" is an important part of the puzzle. How about: The trial proceedings have been heard in open court with regard to the crime.?

thanks but I think this is all clearly implied; I used "offence" rather than "crime" as that would be the terminology in UK/Ireland
