If the 'cuña de separación' has to be retracted separately from the circular sawblade ie its height is independent of the saw height, then it is called a splitter blade, splitting blade or splitter.
If the 'cuña de separación' moves up and down along with the sawblade, then it is called a riving knife.

According to this link, "The riving knife has been a required "standard" item in Europe for many years. Recent regulation changes have made the riving knife acceptable in the United States, therefore some new American table saw models including Delta's new Uni-Saw ® (planned for release in early 2009), are being introduced with riving knifes."

Quitar la cuña separadora te permite hacer cortes invisibles, es decir, ranuras, en la parte inferior de una tabla.
